At some point anyone that uses there computer more than once a month has opened a program and it has taken a few seconds more (sometimes a minute) to load than it should. When this occurs day after day you start to wonder if there are any ways to speed your up your PC. There are some solutions. One of my favorites is using CCleaner.

Many intermediate to hardcore computer lovers may already know about CCleaner (also known as Crap Ceaner) and many other ultilities to help clean up your computer. But this is for those that are constantly calling there friends with the line “My computer is running sooo sloooow!”, “How do I make my computer faster”, or “I need you to fix my computer…its slow”. If I had a nickel for everytime I heard this…well I’d have a lot of nickels.

CCleaner-Portable 2Windows’ CCleaner is a free application that removes junk files from your PC that are accumulated over time. These files are placed in the computer through installing/uninstalling programs, downloading programs & files, browsing the web, and many other ways. While all of these actions might cause small files to be added to your computer, they can have a big affect in bulk. All these “junk files” (as its sometimes called) can cause your computer to operate sluggish after a while. CCleaner is simple software that concentrates on removing the unused files, cookies, temporary files, windows hotfix files, and cache files that we don’t even realize are on our computer. By removing these files you have a good chance of reclaiming better performance.

CCleaner works by scanning your computer and locating files junk or unnecessary files that use system resources. Most of the files that CCleaner accesses can be accessed and removed manually. But this can be an overwhelming task that will take what I think is too much time and everygy. Instead of searching through Windows’ system folders, folders, registry, and control panel, CCleaner brings all of these tools to one place.

You may not notice a difference in performance if you run CCleaner daily or weekly. But you surely will if you are on your computer daily doing typical tasks (web browsing, downloading, software installation) and have not done a system clean in months to a year+. If you have had your computer for 4 years and never done a system clean then you will surely see the value of CCleaner.

There are many other cleaners available for free download, but I prefer system cleaner. I like it because it is basic and powerful at the same time. More than anything I like it because it is freeware! Also, are many file & registry cleaners are not frequently updated and do not work well with the newest web browsers and operating systems. CCleaner does not have these issues. I also like the fact that there is a portable version available. This means that you can load the program on your usb jump drive allowing you to run the software easily on other PCs.

So if you are in need of better performance on your PC, take a chance and install CCleaner and see what type of results you get. If you are unsure as to what settings should be selected I recommend going to Youtube and watching a review of CCleaner or do a google search. Many video reviews will specifiy why certain settings are selected. Below is an example:
